The British Board of Film Classification (BBFC) is independent and not-for-profit, and here to help everyone in the UK - especially children and families - choose age-appropriate films, videos and websites, wherever and however they watch or use them.

With over 100 years’ experience, we regularly consult people across the UK to listen to what they say, think and feel about what’s appropriate for children of all ages to watch. And the services we offer are continually evolving.

As well as classifying films released in UK cinemas and on DVD and Blu-ray, we provide age ratings for Video On Demand (VoD) and music videos online, and help mobile phone operators set parental controls at the right level.

Importantly, with the proliferation of platforms and content, we also set the standards for how the adult industry age-verifies people accessing online pornography, helping give children protection online as well as offline.

To find out more about our work in other industries including film, video-on-demand and mobile you can visit our website: www.bbfc.co.uk. We also have a website for children: www.cbbfc.co.uk.

Our role is to help people make informed decisions about what’s right for them and avoid what’s not, helping everyone - children, families and adults - choose well.
